NEWS FOR WEEK 3 - How to get Bonus Credit this week! (7/1 to 7/4/02)
[Update of 7/5/02 @ 02:15]  The following people have sent a correctly done Class Intro as of this update:  1009, 1024, 2008, 2013
If you think you sent yours, but you are not one of the four listed above, re-check your work and be sure you have followed ALL instructions!  Future announcements as to the Class Intro Project will be posted on the School Notes website and will NOT be announced on the Class Website, so just check the School Notes site frequently until you are listed as one of the successful completers.

1.  Remember that this is a short week.   Thursday, 7/4, is a holiday and Labs and campus buildings will be closed.

2.  The Secret Words have now been e-mailed to all whose Yahoo Mail accounts were properly set up.  If you have not yet received your Secret Word, you may need to see me to fix errors in your e-mail account setup.
Bonus Points will be available to those students who know their Secret Words by beginning of class on Monday, 7/1, as previously announced on this Website.

3.  A BPO will be available on Tuesday, 7/2.  It will be a 15-item multiple-choice quiz covering material from Chapters 2 and 3 in the DC textbook.  You will need one of your Form 815 Scan-Tron Answer Sheets and a #2 pencil.

4.  Now that you have your Yahoo e-mail accounts, you can earn Bonus Points by completing the Class Intro Project.  You will find the instructions in a link on the Class Website Home Page.

5.  The Chapter 4 WebSupp assignments are in a link on the Class Website Home Page.  There will be no WebSupp assignments for Chapters 5 or 6.

6.  BEFORE doing the Internet Assignment for Tutorial 2 in the Word 2000 Lab Manual, be sure to complete Case Problem 4 on P. 2.37.   However, instead of the instructions given in your Manual, use the modified instructions that are posted on the Class Website.  Modified instructions for the Internet Assignment will be posted here on Tuesday, 7/2.

WIT & WISDOM

Quote of the Week:
There is never enough time, unless you're serving it.
--Malcolm Forbes

Amazing Things the Movies can Teach you About Computers:
Anyone can infect a computer with a destructive virus by simply typing "UPLOAD VIRUS" (see "Fortress" or "Independence Day").

Question to Demonstrate the Logical Nature of the English Language:
How can a slim chance and a fat chance mean the same thing, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites?

Ponderable:
If the black box flight recorder is never damaged during a plane crash, why isn't the whole airplane made out of the same stuff?

Interesting New Breeds of Dogs:
Breed a Bloodhound with a Labrador and get a Blabador, a dog that barks incessantly.

New Words that Computer Professionals Should Know:
Blamestorming:  Sitting around in a group discussing why a deadline was missed or a project failed, and who was responsible.
