NEWS FOR WEEK 2  (6/24 to 6/27/02) - Updated 6/26 at 08:15

6/26 08:15 Update:
1) There was an error in the dates on the WebSupp Assignment 1 Web page. Those dates have now been corrected.
2 ) Be sure to check the SchoolNotes site for the latest update to your Yahoo! e-mail account status.
3) The second BPO mentioned in  #6 below will be given in class tomorrow (Thursday, 6/27).
4.  Be sure to check your e-mail regularly between Thursday, 6/27 and Monday, 7/1, so that you can get your Secret Word.  You will need this to find out what your scores are.

1.  This week you will need to finish setting up your class e-Mail account. Check the Schoolnotes.com site for a list of those who have (or haven't) finished setting up their accounts correctly.

2.  The specific pages assigned in your Word 2000 Lab Manual for this week can be found in your Green Sheet.

3.  If you are interested in E & R's found at the end of Chapter 2 of the DC  Text, the ones I would suggest as most useful for point-getting activities would be:

Page 2.42 - Key Terms:  You should be able to define or explain any of these terms.
Page 2.44 & 2.45 - Checkpoint: Do the first four sections (Label the Figure; Matching; Multiple Choice; Short Answer).
Page 2.56 to 2.61 - This is a good tutorial on using Web search techniques.  It can be very valuable for other classes besides CIS 41.

4.  All students who have correctly established their class e-mail accounts by Wednesday of this week will be receiving from me a Secret Word in their Yahoo Mail Inboxes.   In the future, all grades will be reported using this Secret Word to protect your privacy.  If you are careless about the security of this Secret Word, or give it to others, you will have no legitimate basis for complaint if your grades become known to other people.  Be cautious to protect your own privacy!!

5.  The WebSupp Assignments that go with Chapter 2 in the DC Text are now posted on this site.  Go to the WebSupp link, which you can get to from the Class Website Home Page.

6.  2 BPO's will be available this week.  The first one will be on Monday, 6/24.  This will be the one that was postponed from last week.  The other one will be a 15-question Multiple-Choice quiz covering Tutorial 1 in the Windows 98 Lab Manual..   You will need a No. 2 pencil and one of your Form 815 Scan-Tron Answer Sheets to take the quiz.

Ponderable:
You give all your money to someone to invest it for you.  Does this seem wise when such people are known as "brokers?"  Broker than who?
