Instructions for Word Web Assgt. - Summer, 2002
AFTER completing the movie reviews that you created
in Case Problem 4 from Tutorial 2 of your Word 2000 Lab Manual (as modified by the
instructor), your student newspaper decides that you should change the article to include
comments from outside sources and integrate those outside comments with your own personal
opinions. You decide to use the Internet to find reviews of the three films that you
featured in your article. Then you will use Word to update the Edited Movie Review
document that you created in Case Problem 4 to include the new information.
- Go to the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com).
Use the search box to enter the title of the movie you want to find information
about. When the movie's main page appears on your screen, click on "External
Reviews" in the left-hand frame. This will take you to a list of links to
reviews from various magazines, newspapers, and individual reviewers. Use any
combination of reviews to get the supplementary information you need to enhance your
original reviews.
- Start Word and then check your screen to make sure your settings match those shown in
the tutorials.
- Open the file Edited Movie Review from the Tutorial 2 Cases folder on
your MW Disk, and then copy that file to your IX Disk. Use the Save As command to
save the file on your IX disk as: Edited Movie Review 2
- Edit the Edited Movie Review 2 to include the information that you
found in the Internet Movie Data Base.
- Change the paragraph alignment to left.
- Change the title of each movie from italics to underlined.
- All text in your review that came from one of the URLs should be in red. Text that
you wrote yourself should be in black.
- At the end of each edited review, list the URLs from which you got your outside
comments for each such comment that you included in your review. Organize the URL's
by the title of the film that was reviewed which included the comment from the URL.
See example below.
- Preview the document. Then, save the Edited Movie Review 2 document
(on the IX Disk) and close your document and the Word 2000 program.
Example from #8 above:
Suppose you chose as 2 of your movies "The Beach" and "Reindeer
Games." Shown below is a pair of examples of how you would document
material that you added from External Reviews. At the end of your review for
"The Beach," you would add these two lines (but remember you may use a different
URL from the ones shown below - these are only examples).
The Beach - External review found at: http://movie-reviews.colossus.net/movies/b/beach.html
Then, at the end of your review for "Reindeer Games," you would add lines
like the 3 lines shown below:
Reindeer Games - External reviews found at: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/movies/titles/reindeer_games/reviews.php
